after 5:00. clear to partly cloudy, the storm missing us to the south. that guy west of st. louis, that is going to be wednesday into thursday's nor'easter with rain and an outside chance of a little snow here wednesday night. temperatures in the 30s in many areas, oakland is down to 28. fredericksburg, 39 degrees this morning. so expect sunshine, certainly a jacket needed today with mid- 40s from hagerstown. 51 in fredericksburg and 52 here in the district. monika samtani, how is our traffic looking? >> really good for a monday morning. but again, it is a monday morning. at least if you head out the door early you don't have the big delays to worry about. coming in on 66 your lanes are open from centerville to fairfax. same story in herndon, reston and right on down the line to tyson's corner. west side of town, this is what it looks like from bethesda, all your lanes on ep. this time we'll head over to the other side, no issues at all. looking good as you leave new carrollton down to the wilson bridge and we'll take a live look at the beltway down south. and beyond into alexandr

into south carolina. it's going to make the turn and come up the coast. for us it's going to give us a glancing blow. that means just a few rain or maybe snow showers mixed in, especially east. freeze warning until 9:00 this morning. your temperatures are down in the 20s to mid-30s right now. monica, over to you. >>> diesel fuel spill cleanup and an accident on route 234, prince william parkway at balls ford road. it's just south of i-66. cleanup continues there. you'll want to go ahead and use suddenly road as your alternate route to -- sudly road as your alternate route. on i-66 the lanes are open. in fact, let's take a live look there on the inbound side and you can see 66 north of the accident scene is not affected at all as you travel towards centreville, fairfax and beyond. so i'll keep you posted on that situation just south of 66. let's go back over to our maps this time to 270 on the southbound side. still looking great, no issues to report as you head down towards clarksburg down to the point where the lanes divide. all lanes are open right now. we'll take a live look outside

d.c. fire department boat rescue fleet just isn't what it used to be. this is the john glenn. it is the biggest boat in that fleet. the department still uses it to patrol but given all the potential threats to homeland security, there are questions about just how effective this boat could be. that's because it's out there on the water but the communication system is broken. the radio can't transmit a distress call. also the coast guard documentation has expired. >> part of the communication system doesn't work. it appears the certification for the boat that should have been applied for back in august, the date was missed. >> reporter: so the question now whether to apply for grants to repair the boat. those repairs will cost about $700,000. the other option is to lobby capitol hill and to see if they can get some money to buy a new state of the art boat. there are a couple of options. we have to figure out and wait to see what comes of this. as you mentioned earlier, there are potential discussions of cutting the number of medics during the overnight hours. we'll have more on that s

us power could be restored within the hour in fact by there. bge is reporting more than 6,000 outages and pepco within the last hour has 13 customers without power. kristin fisher is here now with more on the intense recovery effort underway now in northeast, good morning. >> reporter: up and down the coast millions of people remain in the dark. the damage in the billions of dollars. and the death toll at least 63 people. but that number is likely only going to continue to climb as new jersey and new york begin to transition from the search and rescue phase to the recovery which in many ways most folks say is more daunting. yesterday, president obama brought some hope to hard hit new jersey pledging to be in it for the long haul. he toured the garden state with governor chris christie where entire neighborhoods are still underwater. the president said his top priority, getting the power back on especially atwater filtration plants and other critical infrastructure. his second priority? transportation. clearing roads from debris and restoring mass transit so people can begin to go back

hill this morning. thank you. >>> neighbors tell us a woman watched as a prince george's county sheriff's deputy shot and killed her son last night. the shooting happened on 63rd avenue in east riverdale, maryland. the sheriff's captain nancy ridgely says the deputy was trying to serve a temporary protective order. it's believed the man's mother opened the door but then he appeared behind her pointing a gun at the deputy. the deputy fired one shot and killed the man. the deputy is a ten-year veteran and has been placed on leave while the shooting is investigated. >>> also in prince george's county, police have arrested four men in a deadly 2010 shooting that just became a murder case. it's been two years since melvin pike was found shot inside his car, but last week the 29-yard pike died of complications related to that shooting. officers have ruled the manner of death a homicide. the four men have been ged char with murder and several other felony counts. >>> the man convicted of grabbing four women in dupont circle as he bicycled past them is headed to jail for three months. a

at 10. that will give us a windchill low to mid-40s as we go throughout the afternoon with a high of 51. at 5:00 p.m. back down to 47 degrees. it is cold this morning. 29 in vienna. 28 lovettsville in northern loudoun county, the cold spot at 30. we have 32 in college park and andrews and fort belvoir barely above freezing now 34 degrees. outside on the michael & son weather camera, good visibility, clear skies. feels like 30 at national with those north, northwesterly winds at 8 milean hour and the dew point has fallen into the 20s. nationally it is going to be a cold day across a good part of the northern half of the country. then cool, even places like atlanta won't even hit 50 today. all the warm stuff in phoenix and florida but we do have a flow right now across the country which is generally west to east. we're not seeing any big shots of cold air now. i was checking out some of the places in the northwest territories of canada. i saw a third below zero up there so the cold is building and eventually is going to head our way. we are looking at these clouds -- maybe a few weeks
